All That Glitters . . .

On Exhibition at the Santa Cruz County Government Building, 701 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz
August 1 - 31, 2024

Ginger Dykaar

Ginger Dykaar, a resident of the City of Santa Cruz, spends much of her days out in nature exploring the many scenic places that Santa Cruz County has to offer. She strives to recreate this natural beauty of the world around us through her pastel paintings focusing on color combinations that attract one into the piece. Ginger’s process begins with selecting a reference photo many of which are graciously provided by Dan Sedenquist, an incredible local photographer of birds, flowers and other fun stuff.

Ginger will also be showing her pastels at Open Studios in October.

Pegatha Hughes

I started painting land and seascapes in 2007, when I moved here from Minneapolis. I painted on-site. My first apartment in Santa Cruz was a block from Monterey Bay and faced Lighthouse Field, so I could easily bike over and set up. I was in heaven.

Originally from Rochester, NY, I now live here in Scotts Valley with my husband Paul. My training has been through classes and workshops that were held in Mexico City, Minneapolis, Marin County, and at Cabrillo College.

Donna Lee

The process of making art helps me form a deeper connection to both the moment in time and the larger world. It’s a meditation and a prayer. And it’s fun. So why not?

Vivian Leib

I have had a lifelong love affair with photography. I adorn my photos with whimsy and a dash of pizzazz using acrylic paint and buttons to create fanciful art

My work is inspired by the everyday joys I experience with family, friends, and beinig in nature.

I have showcased my work in various art exhibitions and sold my photographs in both San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley gift stores.

My hope is that my art can bring a bit of joy to someone's day.

Leah Rose

My name is Leah Rose. Originally from the Santa Cruz mountains and now residing in Soquel, California, I've been immersed in the world of commercial art creating hand lettered signs, murals and commissioned art since 1999. My journey has been shaped by hands-on experimentation, online universities and workshops. My art is a celebration of the natural beauty that surrounds us, particularly the landscapes of California. From the towering redwoods to the golden glow of a coastal sunset, I find endless inspiration in the colors and forms of the outdoors. Working primarily with acrylic and oil paints, I strive to capture the luminous essence of these landscapes, infusing each piece with a vivid palette and a sense of graceful movement.

Through my art, I aim to share the joy and wonder I experience in nature, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in my colorful interpretations of the world around us. I like to say my work is- Inspired by nature, born from the mind.

I create most of my paintings live on YouTube where you can watch my art come to life from my home studio in California.

Ann Thiermann

Ann Elizabeth Thiermann, MFA in Drawing & Painting is a classically trained landscape, portrait and mural artist painting both on location and in her Santa Cruz studio. Her pastel and acrylic paintings from California and abroad provide the visual resources for her murals and hang as fine art in national and international collections. Her paintings have received Best of Show, Grants, and her graduate thesis, mixed media of pastel and acrylic, was published in American Artist. Her commissioned portraits hang in law and CPA offices; capture artists in the act of creation, and children at play.

She has designed over seventy murals for natural history museums, art museums, libraries, educational institutions, and private clients throughout California in scale from 3500 sq. feet to intimate 5' x 7' trompe l'oeil windows. Known for her carefully researched California historical and Native American murals, her works give voice to Native American tribal traditions. They capture the character of specific marine or land environments, with authentic figurative and botanical detail.

Her work as a classical pianist and organist is the inspiration for the lyricism in her work. Felines are also an inspiration in Ann's life. She teaches Studio Art college classes at both Cabrillo College and Cabrillo Extension and offers art workshops in her studio and abroad.
