Docents welcome visitors to the Museum galleries in Boulder Creek and Felton. They provide them with an introduction to the Museum, its exhibitions, and upcoming events. They handle bookstore sales, document the number of visitors to the Museum, and gather visitor feedback
Docents receive training when new exhibitions open and participate in exhibition opening events. Docents act as a bridge between visitors and the exhibitions. They facilitate learning. They guide visitors on their journey of discovery encouraging them to share what they already know and what they have learned from the exhibition content. They encourage questions, stimulate visitor curiosity and imagination, and forward research inquiries to the curator or local historian. They also recognize that some visitors prefer to experience exhibitions in a quiet and reflective way
All volunteers interested in becoming a docent are provided with training. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum one-year commitment and asked to volunteer a minimum of 3 hours each month. Volunteers receive a one-year individual membership to the Museum and recognition at a volunteer only event. Member benefits include a 15% discount in the Museum store and a printed copy of the Museum newsletter.
